National Public Health Week 2024 DSPH Events – April 1st – 5th

Please join us for National Public Health Week as the Dornsife School of Public Health recognizes the power of public health and takes part in the week with the following planned events:

  • April 1st, 2-4pm, Nesbitt 132 & Zoom: Overdose Prevention and Reversal Training (Hybrid)
    • Join Dornsife School of Public Health Office of Education and Dean’s Office for Overdose Prevention and Reversal Training provided by the Division of Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction from the City’s Department of Public Health. We will cover some background info about opioids, the overdose crisis nationally and locally here in Philadelphia, some info about our local drug supply, how to recognize and respond to an overdose, and offer a practical training on how to administer Naloxone (Narcan). Open to students, staff and faculty across Drexel University who are interested in building their public health awareness and skillset in this area.   • April 2nd, 2-4pm, Nesbitt 140: Listening from the Heart: Learning How to Show Up for Others
    • Join the Collective Resilience Fellows for a workshop on empathetic listening in collaboration with The Center for Hunger-Free Communities. This workshop will help you deepen connections and build practical skills for meaningful relationships. In a world often overwhelmed by the noise of daily life, this event offers a sanctuary for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings openly, free from judgment. Facilitated by trained professionals from the Center for Hunger-Free Communities, “Listening From the Heart” promises a safe space where every voice is valued and every emotion is acknowledged.   • April 3rd, 11am-12pm, 3600 Market St, Room 709 & Zoom: UHC Weekly Forum–Linking Social Policy to Health
  • April 3rd, 1-2pm, 3600 Market St, Room 741: Sisters with Passion and Purpose
    • Communities are essential for promoting physical and mental health and healing from individual and collective trauma. All female-identifying members of the Drexel and Philadelphia communities are invited to join the Center for Hunger-Free Communities and the Building Wealth and Health Network for a peer-led group focused on promoting love, healing, and authentic support among womxn.   • April 3rd, 4-6pm, Nesbitt Lobby: DSPH Awards Ceremony & Reception
    • This event is for DSPH students only. These awards celebrate the students, faculty, professional staff, alumni, and community members who have made significant contributions to the Dornsife School of Public Health this year.     • This dynamic speed networking event aims to bring together professionals, students, and enthusiasts in the public health field.   • April 4th, 6-8pm, Nesbitt 132: Screening of Invisible Corps and Panel of Active Duty and Retired USPHS Officers
    • Join us for the screening of the documentary Invisible Corps In Officio Salutis in Service of Health, a documentary that explores the history and role of the Commissioned Corps of the US Public Health Service who are dedicated to solving public health challenges in the United States and globally.   • April 5th, 10-11am, Zoom: Coffee & Convos with Rachel Jurkowski
