EXPO Field Placement APE Funding Award

The Center for Public Health Practice at the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health is a training site with the Mid-Atlantic Regional Public Health Training Center (PHTC). The purpose of the PHTC program is to improve the Nation’s public health system by strengthening the technical, scientific, managerial, and leadership competence of the current and future public health workforce.

The PHTC program at Dornsife has 3 Field Placement awards ($3,500 each) available for domestic students to use toward their Applied Practical Experience. Students applying for this opportunity cannot be receiving payment from their APE site or another DSPH program.

Note: Due to the constraints of our funding, a student is eligible for this funding if are a citizen of the United States, a non-citizen U.S. national, or a foreign national having possession of a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States. 
 
 Field Placement Deliverables (In addition to APE requirements):

  • Poster presentation, scientific report, or policy brief depending on the placement experience.
  • An abstract submission to a conference is required. Regardless of when the conference occurs, abstracts must be completed, and a conference identified, by October 15, 2024.
  • At the completion of the practical experience, the student will be asked to write a summary of their experience and complete a short survey of demographic information. There will also be a short follow up evaluation in 1 year.

Please submit a 1 to 2 page essay BY MAY 1, 2024 answering the following prompts. Please include your name, department, and project topic/title.

  • Provide a short description of your proposed APE. Please include whether you’ve already engaged with the preceptor about your project beyond receiving an offer for the position.
  • Summarize the anticipated impact of your APE. How will it benefit a resource-poor community?
  • What do you hope to gain/learn from your APE (skills, personal development, insight into career direction, etc.)?
