The Office of Student Affairs creates a purposeful and supportive community where students can develop leadership and life skills, develop meaningful relationships, promote change on campus, and explore new interests. Each year, Student Affairs hosts exciting extra-curricular programs that compliment classroom learning and accentuate the growth of personal and professional skills, such as decision making, time management, communication, problem solving, and budgeting. Read below for more details on our annual programming.
Programs and Events
Alumni Mentoring Program
The Dornsife Public Health Alumni Network (PHAN) offers the Alumni Mentoring Program (AMP) to all Dornsife students. The purpose of AMP is to connect current students with alumni and provide an opportunity for mentorship and professional growth.
All alumni and current students are eligible to participate in the AMP. Enrollment opens each September and closes the following March and will be announced on DASH. PHAN and Student Affairs will review applications to assign an alumni mentor with a student mentee. Participants will be asked to complete a survey in order to improve the program and make adjustments. Please contact Michelle McDermott with questions.
American Public Health Association (APHA)
APHA is a 150 year old public health professional organization that champions the health of all people and all communities. Each year, the APHA community gathers at the Annual Meeting and Expo, where nearly 13,000 attendees arrive to present, learn and find inspiration.
On Saturday, November 2, Dornsife’s faculty, staff, and students will kick-off a series of presentations and events at the American Public Health Association’s (APHA) 2019 Annual Meeting and Expo – Creating the Healthiest Nation: For science. For action. For health. The meeting is the ideal setting for the exploration of the critical urban health and equity issues that are at the center of the research conducted at Dornsife.
Join Student Affairs during the Student Assembly for the presentation, “Don’t Make it Awkward: Confident Conference Networking Skills” on Saturday, November 2 at 1:00PM in Philadelphia Convention Center. This presentation is open to all Dornsife students and fulfills the program requirements for MPH students. Students do not have to be an APHA member or registered for the full APHA Annual Meeting to attend the Student Assembly workshops. The fee for attending the Student Assembly workshops is $20 by September 20.
Additionally, network with students, alumni, and public health professionals during the Dean’s Reception on Monday, November 4 from 6:00PM-9:00PM at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University (1900 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy).
