SGO – MLK Week of Service 2022 Opportunities

These opportunities have been compiled by the Dornsife SGO from the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement and other sites. Please see the Lindy Center’s statement and goals for more information about the day and ways to get involved. Find more opportunities, both in-person and virtual, at the Global Citizen website. We hope that you spend time this week to learn more about MLK’s legacy and to serve the Philadelphia community!

  • Share Food Program MLK Day of Service 2022
    • Details: Our volunteer opportunities help people with disabilities, seniors, and any Philadelphian that’s experiencing food insecurity.  Our programs ensure that food reaches some of the most vulnerable populations in Philadelphia. 
    • Date: January 17, 2022 
    • Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm
    • Roles: Home Delivery Drivers (In-person) and Share Callers (Virtual)
  • Cobb Creek Park Cleanup
    • Details: We need 10 to 20 volunteers to help remove litter and trash from a 1 mile section of the Recreational Path along Cobbs Creek Parkway in Philadelphia.
    • Date: January 17, 2022
    • Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm 
    • Location: Mt Moriah Cemetery – link here
  • Chosen 300 Ministries Meal Serve 
    • Details: Volunteers needed to help package and distribute meals to the homeless and individuals experiencing food insecurity. Duties include kindly greeting food recipients, packaging and serving meals, and cleaning up.
    • Dates: January 14 – 17, 2022
    • Time: depends
    • Location: 3959 Lancaster Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19104
  • Jewish Relief Agency Food Packing and Food Delivery 
    • Details: Join JRA at their warehouse in Northeast Philadelphia to pack food and other critical items to be delivered to over 6,500 low-income individuals in need in Greater Philadelphia. 
    • Dates: January 14 – 17, 2022
    • Time: depends
    • Location: 10980 Dutton Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154
  • The New Africa Center’s Food Box Distribution
    • Details: The West Philadelphia Promise Zone works in partnership to improve affordable housing, economic opportunities, quality education, health and wellness, and public safety. 
    • Date: every Thursday and Saturday
    • Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
    • Location: 4243 Lancaster Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19104
  • Consider supporting the survivors of the devastating Fairmount house fire
