The Department of Public Safety would like to inform the Drexel community of an increase in bike thefts in and around campus, as well as throughout the city of Philadelphia. Below are three steps you can take to help prevent bike thefts.
- Secure your bike. Lock your bike with a quality U lock (pictured) and cable. Replace quick releases on the wheels with locking skewers. You can view a helpful graphic with information on the best way to secure your bike on the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition’s website.
- Register and record your bike information. You can register your bike (and other property, such as computers) with Drexel Police at our headquarters at 3219 Arch Street. Regardless, you should keep a photo of your bike/property, including serial number, for your records in the event that it is stolen.
- Report suspicious activity near bike racks. Call the Drexel Public Safety Communications Center at 215.895.2222 any time of day to report suspicious activity.
