Following messages from the University and Dean Diez Roux on our Return to Campus, I am writing with an update on our progress in welcoming all of our Dornsife students back in the fall. Most classes and co-curricular activities will be delivered remotely in the School. There will be some opportunities for face to face classes and co-curricular activities for students planning to return to campus.
Your Academic Department will be in touch shortly with more detailed information about the fall quarter/instruction. We know you have lots of questions, and we are working hard to get you as many answers as quickly as possible. Your academic program manager and myself included, are your best points of contact for those questions.
Student/Campus Life. We are committed to providing opportunities for students to connect outside of the classroom with students, faculty and professional staff. Some events will be within your academic departments/programs but there will be a robust series of opportunities enabling you to connect with alumni, faculty/staff and your peer students. I will be holding a virtual forum for students and Q&A in the coming weeks before the fall quarter starts, stay tuned for the save the date.
Student Support. Students will have limited access to Nesbitt Hall and Drexel buildings with ID. All students regardless of where you are will have access to Drexel Libraries, Career Services, Student Counseling and Health, Student Health Services, Disability Resources, Center for Learning and Academic Support Services and more. Please visit the page titled: Fall 2020 on DASH which will be updated with what you need to know. Dornsife DASH has a full list of student resources and services.
We’ll be offering a multitude of opportunities for students to connect with us and each other throughout the year. Our Weekly Wednesday emails to students will continue and our work with students and student organization leaders will continue.
New Student Orientation. The Student Affairs team is working with all Orientation and Welcome Week presenters to ensure programs/activities are available in a variety of formats as appropriate. All Dornsife orientation events will be delivered remotely either live or recorded, but we will concurrently offer some of our programming face to face when that event can meet health and safety guidelines. Summer Orientation sessions assist in providing you a gradual transition into Dornsife student life, and to become familiar with University resources and services earlier. Michelle Quigley, Associate Director of Student & Alumni Services is your contact regarding Orientation.
Care, Health & Safety. The University has provided details on how we intend to operate as a campus community in the fall quarter. This includes implementing the Dragon Pledge and download/use of the Drexel Health Tracker. All students will be asked to complete an online health and safety training prior to the academic year starting. Student Affairs will coordinate the distribution of masks for our students. Each of us are being asked to follow the University’s guidance to limit the spread of COVID-19 and maintain health and safety of the community. We will provide updates on these matters as they become available.
Please take a look at the University’s Return to Campus Plan and the frequently asked questions page (FAQ) for the answers to further questions – we will continue to add information in the coming weeks.
We are looking forward to welcoming you back soon. We recognize that this is a time of change and uncertainty. Please reach out with questions, feedback, and suggestions. We look forward to working with you in the weeks and months ahead.
